Road trip to Korcula Croatia + 8 tips...

Hello, let's take a look at our road trip to Korcula, Croatia that we made a couple of weeks ago. We decided to drive the whole way down, and stay with friends in Mostar. Check out the pics here, if you have missed them. It was a rather long trip to go with car the whole way, instead of taking the ferry from Split, but it turned out to be a really nice one with new roads and beautiful landscapes. So happy we did it this way.

Going over the mountains, early Saturday morning, in Hercegovina, towards the sea.

We took the Mostar trip in one day, approx 700 km. Mostly highways. And the rest of the trip to Korcula and Vela Luka was approx 400 km. Mostly small roads, bridges and a ferry. But such a beautiful views so it was just fantastic.

They do have a strange system, rather old fashion I have to say, but on the other hand rather fair; YOU CAN'T MAKE ANY RESERVATION ON THE FERRIES!!! But maybe they know how it is in high season where anything can happen and you can be delayed, so maybe more chaos that way.

This ferry was a short one, 15 minutes, and we were lucky and took the last spot. I ran to the cashier and bought a ticket (happy that we had local currency since they didn't take credit card) and then I had to run to the ferry.

Tips för en road trip i södra Europa / Balkan: | Tips for a Road Trip in south Europe / Balkan:

- Pass är ett måste | Passport is a must

- Grönt kort för bilen som inte är äldre än sex månader är ett måste om ni vill in till B-i-H | Green Card for the car, not older then six month, is a must if you are travelling into B-i-H

| The GPS in car is good but worth investing in a proper road map (we will buy one next time). Difficult to get a goad overview in the GPS, both when you are new to a place and when you want to go to multiple destinations.

If going into a city, increase the distance on the GPS to 20 meter, so much easier to see where to turn (or not).

| Bring a lot of water with you; queus, accidents and/or warm weather requires water. And you do remember that you can fill up empty bottles at home?

Speciellt under högsäsong. | Leave early in the morning, really early such as five or six - both for the temperature and also to beat the traffic. Specially in high season.

- Var utvilad, gäller både förare och medpassagerare. Håll varandra sällskap. | Be well rested, both you as a driver or co-driver. Keep each other company.

| Download good music or a couple of audio books. Keeps you awake and concentrated.

| Have you been travelling in these countries before, don't forget to bring coins and pay with them at the toll stations. When you come back home store them away in Ziploc bags, one for each currency. Simple, practical and easy way to use all the coins.
