Sparat i oktober. | Saved lately.

Hello Monday, hello to you, and goodbye South Africa. And tomorrow, when we wake up in Europe, it will be wintertime—and cold.

Here is a real mix of things I’ve saved over the course of October. First up is Dr. Jeremy London, a heart surgeon who talks a lot about heart health. As our friends and we ourselves start getting a bit older, the topic of health—including blood pressure—comes up occasionally. I’d say the majority of our friends have high blood pressure; fortunately, that doesn’t apply to my husband or me yet. Such a relief! And since I’m always forgetting things, I needed Jeremy to remind me what an optimal blood pressure reading should be. Which mine is doing, even a little bit under actually.

I was invited to a lecture on "Women and Longevity" held at an auction house in Cape Town. There wasn’t much new information for me, but I am a strong advocate for women’s health—specifically regarding menopause and how it affects us—so I think it’s great that the topic keeps being brought up. It’s also interesting how it’s still often dismissed as nonsense… At the auction house where the event took place, I spotted this beautiful wine cooler… It would be fantastic to have something like that at home.

Heja mig!

This October list isn’t really relevant to me, but it inspired me to create a November list—since November happens to be one of my favorite months. So, you’ll see that list here on the blog soon. It also occurred to me that I actually own a ring with burgundy stones (ruby), and that I tend to say either “yes” or “fuck it” to a lot of things. Go me!

Some inspiration for my city shorts—which I can style for winter with a chunky sweater and boots.

I haven’t managed to read anything at all on this trip. I thought I’d have TONS of time to just lie around and rest—but nope!! Oh well, I’m definitely NOT sad about that—quite the opposite, in fact. But in the evenings, before I fall asleep, I’ve been listening to Lazar by Nelio Biedermann. It’s so good, yet a bit sad, too… I’ll share more about the books I’ve read this autumn here on the blog.

I dropped off a pair of Dior sandals—which I received from my aunt last autumn—at NK Skomakeri (best in town) to have them freshened up. My daughter picked them up, so it will be exciting to see what they look like now. I hope they turned out nicely.

Emilie Slotte syns lite överallt numera. Hennes stil inspirerar mig i massor.

Emilie Slotte seems to be everywhere these days. Her style is a huge source of inspiration for me. As it happens, I had already dug out my old tweed blazers—pieces I bought back in the 90s and 2000s. They still look just as great; back then, they were designed to be tailored and fitted, rather than oversized. So, for the rest of the autumn (or what’s left of it), I’ll be wearing these tweed blazers at home. As I’ve mentioned before, I tend to hold onto my clothes, so once again, I’m wearing items that are “pre-owned by me”—hehe!

Here’s another inspiring image—it reminds me of a thin, long-sleeved top with a high neck that I bought for my father-in-law’s 80th birthday celebration in Scotland six years ago. It was a perfect match for the tartan long skirt I borrowed from my mother-in-law. Since then, though, I’ve never quite figured out how or with what to wear it (assuming I haven’t thrown it away—oops!), but that all changed when I saw this picture.

Min höst/vinterstil. Den passar så perfekt i Alperna.

My autumn / winter style. It fits so perfectly in the Alps.

Since I’ve been swimming in cold water quite a bit here in Cape Town, I’m thinking of taking my Dutch friend Ankee here for a winter dip when she and her family visit us this Christmas. Should I dare? Then again, I’m planning to take a dip in Svalbard next summer, so I might as well get used to it—hehe!

Ciao Catharina

I’ve written about the Austrian tradition of giving each other "lucky pigs" on New Year’s Eve. So, I’m thinking of ordering these for this years New Years Party… I have to run now—boarding is about to start. Talk to you soon! Ciao, Catharina

Hur latt ar det att skriva & lasa svenska utan prickarna over a, a och o?

Catharina

Hello and Good Evening! Have you been waiting for an update? Me too :) Since last time it has been rather hectic and I have been a little bit lost in space since we are visiting my husbands parents in Bosnia Herzegovina and the tariffs for internet is ridiculus expensive so using my phone and/or computer is a no no. But can`t stay a way totally from internet, so I`m using my parents-in-laws computer. In Swedish is getting more complicated because the keyboard are for Slavic languages and don`t have the Swedish letter a and o with dots and the ring. As well as the keyboard set up is different, anyway  here I`m...

Another difference in this post is that I only have one photo. Couldn`t work out how to transfer the photos to this rather old computer, so later on in the week you will see them all.

As mentioned above, the last week and half has been rather hectic. We had our finnish friends visiting, so much fun, then I flew to Stockholm to fix our appartment. A lot of work and final styling by  Britse & Co (not sponsored) and photo shooting for the prospect (see final result on Hemnet), then back to Flachau, unpack and pack, then travel here, 7 hours in the car. We have visited Sarajevo (a must every time we are here), seen some friends as well as spending time with parents-in-law. The day after tomorrow we will go to Porec, Croatia again! Please see photos from our previous visits this year ( here and here). If the weather is ok, a visit to Venice is in the plan.

Now it is time for a late dinner, my mother-in-law is always making good food, Balkan style. See you later this week, with a lot of photos... Ciao! Catharina
