Hej, jag gillar ju reseminnen och när vi var i Durban så åkte jag till två lokala hantverksaffär; Art Africa och Woza Moya. På båda ställena säljer de saker gjorda av män och kvinnor runt om i Sydafrika. Så ett fint sätt att stödja den lokala näringen.

Fick tomten och en av änglarna av min vän Pam så köpte några dekorationer till då jag kom på att jag ville ha en liten Sydafrikansk julgran hemma i år. Visst är de fina? Kort på julgran kommer, när det så är dags.

Hello, as you might remember I like travel memories and when we visited Durban two weeks ago I went with one of my friends to a local craftsman store Art Africa and Woza Moya. They are selling things locally produced in South Africa. A nice way to support the work and life of the people here.

Got Santa and one of the angels from my friend Pam and I then decided I wanted to have a small Christmas tree with just decorations from South Africa this year. Aren’t they nice? Of course you will see the tree, when it is decorated.

De gör mycket olika konst och bruksföremål av telefontrådar men de är oftast i färgglada färger. Men i lodgen har de dessa beiga små korgar och när jag hittade dem blev jag så glad. Visst är de också fina?

They are making a lot of different things from telephone wiring but they mainly comes in very bright colors. But in the lodge they have beige baskets so when I found these I got really really happy. Aren’t they nice?

Det börjar ju bli populärt med håraccessoarer så köpte dessa två fina spännen. Man vill ju hänga med…

It’s getting popular with hair accessories so bought two hairpins. Can’t fall behind the trends, right?

Lite Giacometti-känsla över dessa två figurer? Har alltid varit förtjust i hans statyer så nu har jag två egna hemma, hehe

A bit of Giacometti feeling regards this two right? I have always liked his statues so now I have two of my own at home, hehe

Snart jul så här skymtar lite julklappar till mina fina tjejer.

Soon Christmas to you see part of a couple of gifts to my two girls.

Här ser ni en typisk liten skål gjord av dessa telefontrådar. Tycker om att läsa tidningarna nere i Sydafrika då de visar annat mode och annan inredning. Riktigt inspirerande. Kommer ett eget inlägg om det. Köpte ett par fina salladsbestick på Mauritius. Kommer att användas mycket.

Inte så mycket utan lagom. Sakerna ovan väntas på att bli utplacerade i huset. Behöver liksom känna in var de skall stå. Mysigt. Vi hörs! Ciao Catharina

Above you see a very typical bowl made from telephone wiring. I like to read magazines in South Africa because they show something different. More edgy and more brave. Really inspiring. Will share it in a separate posting. Also bought a set of salad cutlery from Mauritius. Will be used a lot and needed them since I broke the previous one.

Not to much, just right. The things above are still waiting to be place in different places in the house. Need time to get the feeling on where. Me like. See you later! Ciao Catharina

Brrr lite kallt... | Brrr a little bit cold...

Hej, efter 27 timmars resa kom vi tills slut hem. Allt gick jättebra, inga överraskningar. Skönt! Men både maken och jag har idag känt oss lite vimmelkantiga. Och vi är fortfarande på Mauritiustid, mao tre timmar före. Så vi vaknade tidig imorse, till bruset av snökanonerna och förmodligen somnar vi tidigt också, också till bruset av snökanonerna.

Vi hade en riktigt mysig sista dag och efter bad i salt vatten och ett träningspass kändes det bra med en dusch. Hotellet erbjöd detta till alla gäster (tror jag) och sedan på med varmare kläder. Därefter hade vi lite tid över och vi satte oss i den stora loungen och hade denna fantastiska utsikt. Ser ni molnet bakom palmerna? Drack sista gratis drinken.

Hello, after 27 hours travel we finally arrived home. Everything went very well, without any surprises. Nice! But both me and my husband feels a bit wobbly today. And we are still on Mauritius time, i.e. 3 hours before. So we woke up early this morning, hearing the snow canons working and probably we will fall asleep early as well, also hearing the snow canons working.

We had a really nice last day on Saturday. And after a long day at the beach and then an hour at the fitness studio it felt really good with a proper shower. The hotel is offering this service to all the guests (I think) and then time to put on warmer clothes. Then we had some time to kill before our taxi arrived and we decided to spend it in the big lounge area, with this beautiful view. Do you see the cloud? We also drank the last free drink.

Sedan mörknade det lite till. Jag sprang fram och tillbaka och tog kort.

Then it got darker. And I ran back and forward to get the best photos.

Och tog en sväng ner till stranden också för att fånga detta. Ett fint hejdå från Mauritius. Vi kanske kommer tillbaka, kanske.

Och här är det kallt. Fast inte egentligen för det är bara runt 0 grader men den värsta tiden är alltid när kylan först kommer. Kroppen måste vänja sig. Sedan kan det bli hur kallt som helst utan att man tänker på det. Konstigt eller hur? Så bara att klä sig varmt och skönt och hålla ut. Samma sak varje år. Ciao Catharina

And also went to the beach to catch this. A really nice farewell from Mauritius. Maybe we are coming back, maybe.

And here it is cold. Well, not really only around zero Celsius. But the worst time is always in the beginning when it changes to cold weather. The body has to get use to it. After that it doesn’t matter how cold it gets. You don’t really think about it. Strange, right? But only to dress warm and comfy and get use to it. Same thing every year. Ciao Catharina

Hej, sista dagen här på Victoria Beachcomber; Victoria for 2. Vi får egentligen 8 dagar här då vårt flyg inte går förrän vid midnatt. I vanliga fall så har jag lärt mig att inte ta ett sent flyg hem sista dagen. Om man bor på hotell måste man checka ut på förmiddagen och oftast blir resten av dagen en lång väntan på att åka hem... 

Hello, last day here at Victoria Beachcomber, Victoria for 2. We are actually getting 8 days here because our flight is not leaving until midnight. Normally I don’t like a late flight on the last day. It’s just turns out to be a day of waiting. Normally early check-out, then find something to do, get back to get the bags and the off to the airport...

Men inte idag! Vi var kvar på hotellet till tolv inklusive frukost i sängen. Därefter checkade vi ut. Handlade ett par saker i shopen på hotellet, inklusive några vykort att skicka (turist ja visst). Vi har all-inclusive så vi kan utnyttja allt tills vi åker till flygplatsen vid halv åtta ikväll. 

But not today! We stayed in our room until noon with breakfast in bed. Then we check-out, did some shopping including buying some postcards to be sent home (a bit touristic but nice). We have all inclusive so we can use all facilities until we are leaving. 

Vi har ätit en fantastisk lunch och nu ligger vi och lapar i oss den sista solen. Det blåser en mild vind, det är ca 30 grader o lite molningt. Perfekt! Gjorde som en riktig tysk imorse och sprang upp vid halv åtta och la våra handdukar på solstolarna. Sedan dök vi upp vid halv två, hehe

We have had a fab lunch and now we are enjoying the sun. Right now a bit windy and cloudy but still enjoyable. This morning I did like a true German and went out at half past seven and put our towels on the sunbeds. Then we turned up at half past one, hehe.  

Så just nu ser vår utsikt ut så här!

Vi ligger nog här i två timmar till. Sedan tänkte vi ta en runda på gymmet. Vi har bokat dusch så vi får ett rum där vi duschar och byter om till varmare kläder. Sedan bär de av med taxi till flygplatsen, som ligger på andra sidan ön. Om allt går som planerat är vi hemma imorgon kväll vid sju. Så 24 timmars resa...

We are staying here another two hours. Then off to the gym for a last workout, shower and change to warmer clothes. Taxi to airport and if everything goes according to plan we are home tomorrow at 7pm. So 24 hours travel...

...räknar med att Vanderpump är på Emirates entertainmentsystem på hemvägen oxå. Då blir allt lättare... hehe

Staying at a Private Game Lodge.

Hej, som jag skrev i ett inlägg tidigare i veckan så bor vi på en privat Game Lodge. SuperSuperLyxigt!! Detta innebär att vi själva står för mat och dryck, och att vi generellt är 10-15 personer samlas till de olika måltiderna. Måltiderna är i huvudsak brunch (mao en riktigt frukost efter safarin) och middag. Däremellan snacks och drinkar på sen eftermiddag som vi antingen intar på lodgen eller så åker vi till något fint ställe och njuter av vacker natur.

Hello, as I wrote in one of my posting last week we are staying at private Game Lodge. Super Super Nice!! However this means that we are catering for the food ourselves. We are normally 10-15 people that are gathering for the meals, and they are mainly two - brunch (after Game Drive) and dinner. Snacks and drinks later afternoon is also a nice gathering place, both at the lodge but also on different beautiful spots around the Game Reserve.

På Lodgen arbetar 4-5 personer och de hjälper till att duka och fixa iordning inför måltider och utflykter. Här dukas det upp för Annes 60-års middag.

At the lodge there is staff that take care of the place and helps us setting table and preparing things for the different occasions. Above there is a birthday celebration for Annes 60th birthday.

För att allt skall fungera så smidigt som möjligt så får man i god tid en lista över vilka som kommer och när man är ansvarig för maten. Systemet är så att man ansvarar för snacks och en middag och frukost påföljande dag. Så planering krävs för vad som skall inhandlas, mat såväl som dryck. För i en Game Lodge bland alla vilda djur finns ju inte direkt en Seven Eleven om man har glömt något. Allt inhandlas innan! Drycker köper man till sig själv för hela vistelsen… massa vin blir det…hehe och gin och aperol och…

Det är kul med detta system för man får massa god mat från hela världen såsom moussaka från Grekland, curry och även braai (mao BBQ) från Sydafrika, sarma (kåldolmar) & fyllt paprika från Kroatien, Beef Salad från Kalifornien mm mm

In order to things to work smoothly with that many people around a list of all people that are coming and who is responsible for the food a specific day is sent well in advance. You are responsible for snacks, one dinner and breakfast / brunch the following morning. So some planning is required since you can’t go to Seven Eleven if you forgot something. Because, remember we are out in the bush. We are buying the beverage for ourselves for the whole stay so many bottles of water, oh I mean wine… gin and aperol and…

This is a really nice system and you are getting really nice good every day and from all over the world such as moussaka from Greece, curry and braai (i.e. BBQ) from South Africa, sarma and filled bell peppers from Croatia, Beef Salad from California etc etc

Huvudrätt | Main course - Världens godaste laxrätt (som jag skrev om här). Perfekt att göra för många. | Best Salmon Recipe in the world (check it out here). Perfect to serve for many.

Efterrätt | Dessert - Pannacotta med ett glas grappa därtill. Och inte vilken grappa som helst utan från vår vän Goran i Kroatien. Kolla här. Vi hade tagit med en flaska. | Pannacotta with a glas of grappa served on the side. And this is the grappa from our friend Goran in Croatia. Packed in our suitcase.

Alltid lite nervöst att laga mat för många när man inte känner till köket och att laga mat till människor som man inte riktigt känner. Men det blev en hellyckad middag.

Har precis sett en fantastiskt vacker solnedgång här på Mauritius och vi är ju 3 timmar före så klockan här är lite över sju så dags att klä om/klä upp sig för kvällens drink och middag. Vi hörs imorgon! Ciao Catharina

Always a bit nervous to make food for many in a kitchen that you don’t know and to cook for people that you don’t know. But it all went very well!!

And I just watched the most beautiful sunset here in Mauritius and we are 3 hours ahead so the time is a bit past 7pm so time to quickly change for the pre-drink and dinner. See you tomorrow. Ciao Catharina

Friends = Idwala Game Lodge = Fun

Hej, det finaste med att få möjlighet att åka till Idwala Game Lodge, förutom att se alla fantastiska djur, är att vi alltid träffar och umgås med en massa vänner där. Vissa stannar hela veckan, som oss medans andra stannar 3-4 dagar. Vi gör mycket tillsammans; åker på safari, äter frukost och middag ihop, gör utflykter ihop, umgås på eftermiddagarna vid poolen eller vid öppna spisen (beroende på vädret) och allt som oftast vid den öppna elden på kvällarna (en sk boma) innan middagen. Men vi bor ju i egna små hus så man bestämmer själv hur mycket man vill umgås.

Hello, one of the most fantastic things being invited to Idwala Game Lodge, except seeing all animals, is the time with all friends that we get here. Some are staying the whole week, as we do. Some stay for 3-4 days. We are doing a lot of things together; going on Game Drives, eating breakfast and dinners together, making excursions, just spending time by the pool or by the open fire (depending on the weather) and almost all evenings we are sitting by the boma (an open fire) before dinner. But we are staying in our own cottages so no pressure to be with other the whole time.

Alltid lika mysigt att åka till vattenfallen för en eftermiddagsdrink. Lite som Out of Africa- känsla. Och efter varje gång som vi har varit här så har vår vänskap stärkts med de som vi redan känner och vi har lärt känna nya fina vänner. Fantastiskt! Och visst är det så som det skall vara i livet? Always so nice to go to the waterfalls for an afternoon drink. The feeling is a bit like Out of Africa. And after each trip here we have strengthen the friendship to with our “old” friends and also got new friends. Fantastic! And this is how it should be, right? Ciao Catharina
