Dubrovnik

Hej, vi är nu i Dubrovnik och vi njuter till 1000%. Vi kom hit i måndags efter en smidig bilresa på nästan 90 mil ner till södra Europa. Vi checkade in på ett hotell som är helt fantastiskt och ligger på en halvö strax norr om Dubrovnik gamla stad och här har vi havsutsikt vart vi än går. Mer om det i nästa inlägg. Vi skall strax träffa kompisar som kommer från Korcula, en ö lite norr om oss och vi skall ut och äta tillsammans ikväll, så jag behöver skynda på lite. Efter att ha njutit idag som började med en sovmorgon, en lång fantastiskt god frukost, ett par timmar på stranden och sedan en lite tupplur…

Hello, we are now in Dubrovnik we and enjoying ourselves to 1000%. We got here on Monday after a smooth drive of almost 900 km down to southern Europe. We checked into a hotel which is absolutely fantastic and is located on a peninsula just north of Dubrovnik old town and here we have sea views wherever we go. More about this in the next post. We are going to meet friends who come from Korcula, an island a little north of us, and we are going out to eat together tonight so I need to hurry up a bit. After we slept in, had a long delicious breakfast, a couple of hours at the beach and then an afternoon nap…

Jag har varit i Dubrovnik tre gånger, inklusive denna. Första gången var när jag gifte mig med maken 2004 och andra gången var sommaren 2011 då vi seglade med kompisar här i södra Kroatien. Och nu, tredje gången. Vi har varit på gång hit flera gånger men alltid tyckt att det är för mycket folk, för fullt, och för turistiskt, så det har inte blivit något. Men nu när vår sydafrikaresa blev inställd så ville vi fira vår 20-åriga bröllopsdag och vips hade maken bokat en vecka här. Lyxigt värre.

I have been to Dubrovnik three times, including this one. The first time was when I married my husband in 2004 and the second time was the summer of 2011 when we sailed with friends here in southern Croatia. And now, the third time. We have been planning to come here several times but always thought it was too crowded, too busy, and too touristy, so we had not gone. But now that our South Africa trip was cancelled, we wanted to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and suddenly my husband had booked a week here. Luxuriously!!

Vi tog bussen in till gamla stan i onsdags. Men kära nån vad galet mycket turister det var. Kö in och ut ur staden. Folk överallt, folk stod överallt, stannade mitt i steget… tyvärr ett resultat av alla dessa stora kryssningsfartyg som kommer hit. Värre än Venedig, för Dubrovniks gamla stad är relativt liten, och i Venedig kan du alltid gå lite utanför de populära områdena och hitta dit där det vanliga livet pågår.

We took the bus into the old town on Wednesday. But dear, what a crazy amount of tourists there were. Queue in and out of town. People everywhere, people standing everywhere, stopped in the middle of walking… unfortunately a result of all these big cruise ships coming here. Worse than Venice, because Dubrovnik's old town is relatively small, and in Venice you can always go a little outside the popular areas and find where the regular life is going on.

Maken som är mer eller mindre uppvuxen här blev helt chockad av alla människor och trängsel. Och han avskyr, verkligen avskyr mycket folk. Ujujuj!!! Jag övertalade honom dock att stanna och ta en cappuccino på det klassiska caféet Gradska Kavana Arsenal. Och ni ser, han ser ju inte direkt nöjd ut 😩 Mer här var det mest kroater, så lite mindre turistiskt.

My husband, who more or less grew up here, was completely shocked by all the people and crowds. And really hates too much people. Oh dear!! I talked him into taking a cappuccino at the classic café Gradska Kavana Arsenal. And you see, he doesn't exactly look happy 😩 But the good thing was at least that here we mostly Croatian, i.e. locals.

Dubrovniks gamla stad är vacker och visst syns det på fotona, eller hur? Jag har lyckats att fånga bilder just där det var mindre turister så det ser härligt ut. Så kolla vidare på vad jag fångade på bild nedan. Men det var galet mycket folk, så mycket folk, trist! Så vi var där inte så länge men jag fick min dos av denna vackra staden. Jag hade gärna varit här längre men så blev det inte. Ibland måste man ju kompromissa. Vi ses imorgon igen! Ciao Catharina

Dubrovnik's old town is beautiful and it certainly shows in the photos, doesn't it? I have managed to capture pictures just where there were less tourists so it looks lovely. So check out what I captured in the picture below. But there were a lot of people, and a lot of people, sad! So we weren't there that long but I got a small dose of this beautiful city. I would have liked to have been here longer, but it was not to be. Sometimes you have to compromise. See you again tomorrow! Ciao Catharina
