Wedding weekend in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

Hi, our time here in Cape Town continues to be absolutely amazing. A new week has begun, bringing new adventures as well as quiet days filled with long walks by the sea. But let’s go back to that first weekend after we arrived in Cape Town. We landed around 9:30, went through passport control, collected our luggage, and took an Uber to our apartment. I had already packed for the weekend, so we simply dropped off the rest of our bags, picked up the car keys, and drove the small car to our hotel in Stellenbosch.

We stayed at the beautiful Banhoek Lodge in the Banhoek Valley with our friends.

We had booked a corner room, and it was one of the most beautiful rooms we have ever stayed in. It was spacious and beautifully decorated, with views of the vineyards in every direction.

I’ve realized I’m not very good at photographing hotel rooms. I can’t quite get the angles right... but surely you can see that the room is really beautiful?

In the evening, we headed into Stellenbosch for dinner with friends at De Vleispaleis. We had a delicious meal and then moved on to De Akker the most popular pub among university students in Stellenbosch.

Haha, yep, we were definitely the oldest ones there, and we certainly felt like it. But we had fun…

When Saturday began, my husband and I thought we would have a quiet day leading up to the wedding, which started at two o'clock. But that’s not how it turned out… Anyway, we had a delicious breakfast. My husband wanted to rest after breakfast, but I wanted to take a walk along the beautiful vineyards. So that’s what I did. Here you can see our little hotel from the outside.

So I went for a “walking and wining” walk—though without the “wining”…

It was so beautiful walking among all the vines. It feels like 2026 is my year for hiking through vineyards around the world, haha. Here you can also see where the wedding will be held—Zorgvliet

Visst är det galet vackert här?

Isn't it incredibly beautiful here?

Zorgvliet is a large estate; there’s a bistro and a small picnic area here. It looks incredibly cozy!

Visst är detta en gullig skylt! Såg dock inte den knasiga ekorren, haha

Isn’t this a really cute sign? I didn't see the nutty squirrel, though—haha.

When I got home, our friend Keith got in touch to invite us to lunch, so there went my chance to rest. We had half an hour to get ready to meet at one of our favorite vineyards, Rust en Vrede.

We’ve been here four or five times, and we celebrated my 60th birthday here in 2022 at their restaurant, which serves contemporary French cuisine. It was delicious and luxurious.

For lunch, they serve a so-called "Winemaker’s lunch." They offer just two dishes: steak or salmon. So delicious and so simple.

We also bought some wine to take with us. My husband and I love Chenin Blanc, a white wine that’s hard to find back home. We found a really good one here, so we bought a box. Naturally. Then we had just under an hour to get ready for the wedding. It was a bit of a rush, but we made it! We didn’t have a long way go, just cross the vineyard.

Here, we are taking a small bus to the chapel where the actual ceremony is to be held

We were unsure about the actual format of the wedding, as it varies from country to country. What was interesting here was that it was very similar to a Swedish wedding.

Allt var så fint och vackert. Massa glädje, skratt och kärlek.

Everything was so lovely and beautiful. Lots of joy, laughter, and love.

We had a really good time, but by 10:30 we were completely exhausted and left the young people dancing. We just didn't have any energy left after the stress of the two weeks before we left, the long flight, and the non-stop pace since arriving here. It’s nice to be able to do what you want to do sometimes, especially when the energy is zero. We slept so well!

So, on Sunday, we woke up fresh and well-rested.

Vi åt en god frukost…

We had a nice breakfast…

… and after that we were admiring the view from our room one last time, we then packed up our things and set off for yet another lunch with friends, at yet another vineyard…

They’ve just opened a restaurant, and we had lunch there. So delicious! Then it was time to head “home.”

We bought a few boxes of wine to take with us, from the two vineyard that we visited this weekend. Always nice to buy directly from the vineyards. Then we rested for the rest of Sunday and part of Monday, until it was time to meet up with friends again for dinner at the home of our dear friends Keith and Barbara.

Igen!!

It turned into a bit of a "last night with the gang" before several of our friends headed home. A truly wonderful evening with lots of good food and lots of laughter. Once again!!

Så härligt!!!

Beautiful time with friends!!

Så kul!!

So fun!!
