Midsommar.

Hej, detta är ju ingen vanlig vecka för det är midsommarvecka!! Ni kanske kommer ihåg att jag skrev ett inlägg om afton och dag när det gäller att fira, midsommarafton är ett bra exempel. Tänkte fira det i år med våra vänner Mona och Alex, precis som vi gjort ett par gånger tidigare. Vill ju hitta en anledning att plocka fram min lilla midsommarstång. Tycker att den är så fin. Just i år blir det på midsommarafton. Lite koll på vad midsommar egentligen är och varför det firas? Kolla här!

Hello, this week is a special week in Sweden. This weekend we celebrate Midsommar. Or rather, we celebrate it on Friday which then is Midsummer Eve. Maybe you remember that I wrote about eve and day, when to celebrate it and Midsummer Eve is no exception, i.e. that is the day we celebrate the festive in Sweden. This year we celebrate it again with our friends; Mona and Alex. A good reason to have a nice dinner and to bring my midsummer decoration out. Want to know more about Midsummer in Sweden and why we celebrate it? Check it out here! And Midsummer is as big as Christmas but you celebrate with friends and preferably in your summer cottage.

Jag har lite ansjovis kvar från i julas så tänkte använda den till en gubbröra och sedan fixa ihop en typisk svensk sen lunch med snaps, färskpotatis, sill, jordgubbar bl.a. Köpte lite sill på IKEA så har lite olika sorter samt knäckebröd. Blev lite Kalles Kaviar också, vilket jag tycker är jättegott. Prövar på lite nya recept och blir de bra så lovar jag att dela med mig till er.

I have some anchovy left from Christmas so will use that together with snaps, fresh potatoes, herring, salmon and strawberries among other things. Bought some fresh herring at IKEA so that is already organized. Will try some new recipes and will share them, if they are good.

Snapsen kommer från vår kompis Goran och hans egen grappaproduktion. Vi skippar dansen kring midsommarstången men annars blir det nog ganska likt en helt vanlig midsommar. Fast vi är nog inte heller uppe tills soluppgången som är brukligt, åtminstone när man är ung. Vilket är riktigt mysigt!

Of course our snaps will come from our friend Goran and his own grappa production in Croatia. We will skip dancing around the maypole but otherwise I think it will be rather midsummer like. Oh yes, we are probably not staying up until the sun goes up, which is a thing when you are young. And very nice!!

Och som avslutning blir det en riktigt god midsommartårta. Detta är den enda tårta som jag bakar och som är riktigt riktigt god. Kolla in receptet här.

Vi har riktigt skön sommarvärme här just nu så det blir fint väder. Men vi hoppas att det inte kommer en åskskur, som det är ganska brukligt här nere på sommaren. Men om så, då får vi ta fram de klassiska midsommarfiltarna då det oftast är svalt på midsommarafton, även fast resten av sommaren är fantastisk. Åtminstone hemma i Sverige.

We do have nice summer weather here now, finally! Enjoying the sun and the warm weather. So it looks good for the Friday celebration.

Glad midsommar. | Happy Midsummer.

Glad midsommar önskar jag dig!! Hoppas ni får en fantastiskt mysig dag trots det numera kalla vädret. Vår familj (har gällt både mina föräldrar, livet med min ex-man och med maken) har aldrig varit speciellt stora på traditioner och speciellt inte att göra samma sak från år till år. Vissa år kan vi fira riktigt som det ska och visa år firar vi ingenting. Och det gäller alla stora helger. Men visst känner man som svensk något speciellt när det är midsommarafton, oavsett om man är hemma eller inte. Så förra året köpte jag en midsommarstång att ha på bordet hemma, de åren som vi firar. 

Men i år får den stå kvar i skåpet då vi inte firar någon midsommar. Vi har åkt ner till Bosnien igår och här hälsar dels på svärmor och dels skall vi på bröllop i Sarajevo. Och japp, min 83-åriga svärmor har skaffat både wifi och padda så här kan jag nu vara online när det andra pratar och pratar och pratar (ja inte svenska eller engelska eller tyska utan kroatiska).

Happy Midsummer to you! Well, if you are not a Swede you might not understand the big thing, or? In Sweden we tend to celebrate all the big holidays on the Eve and not on the Day... i.e. Christmas Eve, Easter Eve, Midsummer Eve etc etc And midsummer is the same; i.e. a Friday every year around the 20th of June. Midsummer is bigger than Christmas, but in another way. I think it is the hope for a wonderful long summer with sun, bath and vacation. You can celebrate it both with family and/or friends. More party than Christmas, i.e. more alcohol, which is not always that positive. 

In our family; with my mother and father, my with ex-husband as well as with my husband we have all been the same; not that big with traditions. Some years we go all in and some years we do nothing. This goes for all big holidays. Feels rather revealing and so much less pressure on the fact that everything has to be perfect. But of course, midsummer will always be a holiday that you think about even though you are not in Sweden. And last year I bought this nice table decoration, for those years that we do celebrate midsummer, a really nice midsummer pole.

And this year my table decoration will remain in the cupboard. We are now in Zavidovici with my mother-in-law and today we will go to Sarajevo for a big wedding. And yes, my 83-year old mother-in-law have now wifi and and iPad, yieahh. So I can be online while the other are talking and talking and talking (not Swedish, English or German but Croatian).
