Hello Monday and hello you! Yes, we are waiting, waiting and waiting… to get information about and when we can open up for guests to our cottages. Since the end of October, when the first lockdown came, we have had to wait for new information every two or three weeks. And yesterday came the latest announcement and the lockdown continues until February 7. This is after the Austrian sports holiday. But, and a big but, all the tourism industry, including us, will not be allowed to open at all in February. In other words, our high season is gone. The last hope is from March until Easter. Then the season closes. We had negative income Q4-20 and the start of this quarter as well. Why you might wonder? We need to pay back to guests that has cancelled. Most of our guests choose to re-book to next season, which we are very happy for, but some wants to cancel. Fully understand.
What does lockdown mean here in Austria, which has lasted since the end of October?
All hotels, guest houses and private options are closed.
All restaurants and bars are closed. Possibility of pick-up is available but they are few.
All gyms are closed.
Shops are closed for periods. Right now, most things are closed except grocery stores, pharmacies and banks.
Curfew from 20.00 to 06.00. Now we have to wear FFP2 masks in all public places, but not outdoors.
Some lift systems are open with limited capacity and then with requirements for distance and FFP2 masks. We are happy for this, as long as its lasts.
But can it not be nice with a holiday, you might think? Because it's like a holiday when we have nothing to do. Not really. This is more like being laid off as no money comes in. And it takes on the mental health to constantly get negative messages when the season is limited, and now the high season is over for us. In terms of booking. We do start hoping for the summer season, but with the new mutation and slow distribution / doubts everywhere regarding vaccines, there is small question mark around the summer as well… well...
Is it perhaps sad to read about our tribulations? I hope not. But if so please let me know. In life there will be both ups and downs. Of course, more fun to follow in the upswing, but I'm crass, and it can not be forever. Unfortunately. But on the other hand, decline can not last forever either, right? Definitely not!!
We need a couple of days to digest the message with the close down and to contact the rest of our guests for this season to see what they want to do. Yesterday I was so bored and without energy that I picked out my German books. Now it will be Der, Die and Das this week and some fun exercises at Duolingo. Today I will concentrate on Der - the Masculin Genus. Learned yesterday Das Auto and Das Bier. Important words, hehe
See you! Ciao Catharina
