Hej, har ni det bra? Idag har vi tränat och bastat i Thermé Amade. Det är lite annorlunda här nere att basta så skriver om det lite senare i veckan, haha. Här är fortsatt jättevacker väder men fullt med weekend turister så vi åker inte skidor när det är relativt fullt i backarna; Doing it like the locals!

Tänkte skriva om Kroatien och min utlovade serie från höstas fick stryka på foten för allt annat som jag ville dela med mig av då. Men nu kommer det en serie framöver, lagom till sommarens semesterplanering.

Hello, hope you have had a nice week-end! Today we have been to the fitness studio and then we went to the big Therme Amade for sauna. And to do sauna here is a bit different then up in Sweden, haha. Will give you a report later next week. Here it is still super nice weather, and therefore packed with people in the slopes so we are doing it it like the locals, i.e. going skiing in the week instead.

Time to write about Croatia! I did promise to write about it in the autumn but I had other things that I wanted to share with you then. But now it is time, just in time for the planning of the summer holidays!

Jag har varit på många ställen i Kroatien genom åren. Det är framförallt tre större områden som man åker till; längst upp i norr halvön Istrien, mitten med Split och alla öar som Hvar, Brac mm och sedan längst i söder Dubrovnik också med massa öar. Och jag har varit på alla dessa ställen, och dessutom seglat från Dubrovnik till Split 2011. Och jag och maken gifte oss i Dubrovnik 2004.

I have been in Croatia rather a lot over the years. The main areas you normally go to is; in the north Istra, in the middle Split with its islands such as Hvar, Brac mm and then in the south Dubrovnik, also with all its islands. And I have been to a lot of them, and we have also been sailing from Dubrovnik to Split in 2011. And me and my husband got married in Dubrovnik in 2004.

Kroatien har kustlinjen i väst så alltid vackra solnedgångar och massa klippor och färre sandstränder. Så likt Bohuslän (där jag växt upp), på ett sätt.

Vi har fastnat för Istrien och lilla staden Porec, dels för att maken har bott där i många år, och vi har nu relativt många vänner där. Och det känns lite som hemma här. Samt att det tar ca 3 1/2 timma att bila från Flachau, så bra avstånd (ungefär som att bila från Stockholm och komma söder om Örebro haha). För att komma till Split tar det ytterligare ca 6 timmar till och för Dubrovnik ca ytterligare 3 timmar med bil.

Istrien liknar Toskana på många sätt. Böljande kullar, byarna uppe på toppen, vingårdar och olivlundar överallt. Här märks både spår av den österrikiska monarkin såsom i den lilla staden Opatija och i Porec, och Italien; man är fortfarande tvåspråkigig vilket märks framförallt på alla vägskyltar och alla barn läser båda språken i skolan (kroatiska och italienska)

Här finns också ett UNESCO världsarv Plitvitce som är så vacker att man dör!!!

Croatia has its coast line in the west, so beautiful sunsets! A lot of cliffs, less sandy beaches.

Out favorite is Istrien and the little town Porec, partly because my husband has lived here for many years and we have a lot of friends here. So it feels a bit like home. And it only takes 3 1/2 hours to go here from Flachau (when you travel from Stockholm you will reach south of Örebro at the same distance...haha). And to go to Split you need another 6 hours and for Dubrovnik additional 3 hours.

The half island Istra looks almost like Tuscany. The rolling hills, the small towns on top of the hills, all the vineyards and all the olive trees everywhere. You notice both the past here with the Austrian monarchy such in the little town Opatija and in Porec, and Italiy where they still today are bilingual and all the signs are in both languages; Croatian and Italian.

Here you also have one of UNESCO world heritage center Plitvice. And it is so beautiful!!

Bästa tiden att åka? Säsongen är relativt lång här. Och man kan mer eller mindre åka från påsk till och med slutet på oktober. Tidig och sent på säsongen åker du förmodligen hit mer för cyckling, spela / träna tennis eller segla. Absolut bästa tiderna att åka är från mitten / slutet på juni till slutet på juli och sedan igen slutet på augusti till september / oktober.

Varför inte augusti? Jo, då har resten av Europa semester, framförallt de två första veckorna och det är såååå packat här ner att det inte är särskilt kul med något. Tänk också på att södra Tyskland och Österrike har sommarlov från mitten av juli fram till mitten av september, och de står för stor del av alla turister.

Best time to go? The season is fairly long. And you can basically go from Easter to end of October. Early and late you will probably go there for more sport related activities such as cycling, playing tennis or sailing. The main season is from mid/end of June to end of July and then again end of August to September / October.

Why not August? This is the time when the rest of Europe is having their holidays, specially the first two weeks of August. And then it is packed everywhere and not too enjoy!! And also South Germany and Austria is having the school holidays from mid July to end of September, and they make up for a big part of the turists going to Croatia.

I Kroatien är havet ständigt närvarande! Man kan mer eller mindre bada överallt! Här finns också i mitt tycke världens godaste fisk och skaldjur (tja i samma klass som på svenska västkusten). Mmmmmm!!

In Croatia the sea is always present!! And you can swim everywhere!! Here they also have absolutly fantastic fish and shellfish (ok in the same class as the ones from the Swedish west coast). Delicious!!!

Överallt finns det frukt- & grönsaksstånd. Vi har hittat "vår" plats och här odlar de allt frukt och grönt på fälten bakom ståndet. Tala om närodlat!

And everywhere they sell fresh fruit and vegetables. We have found a stall that grows everything on the fields behind. Talk about locally produced!!

September; Murter, Split & Hvar

Vi fick i mitten på september möjlighet att åka till Murter, där Bojans kusin byggt ett hus precis vid havet. Mer om den resan och vad vi hittade på kan ni se här och här... Fantastiskt!!

In the middle of September we got an invitation from my husbands cousin, that had build a house right by the water front in Murter. More of this trip you can see here and here... Fantastic!!!

Oktober; Porec

Och i oktober hälsade vi på våra mycket goda vänner Jelena, Sandy & Nina!! Vi bodde i deras sk Beach House i den fina villa som de numera hyr ut; Villa Bruna. Se mer här.

Have tried to give a short overview on how Croatia looks like, different parts and different seasons.
