Hej, här kommer nu sista inlägget om Mauritius. Kolla inläggen här! Vi åkte en dag på utflykt. Vi tyckte att vi skulle se något och inte bara vårt hotell, hehe

Vi bodde på nordvästra delen av ön, och både flygplatsen, och avresa för vår utflykt var på sydöstra delen av ön. Så två gånger åkte vi tvärs över ön så fick se lite av Mauritius, och tja den är inte så vacker, tyvärr. När vi kom första dagen trodde vi att vi bara var trötta och sura över att vi hade behövt köa i tre timmar i passkontrollen, men tyvärr stämde första intrycket. Skräpigt, halvfärdiga hus och allmänt rörigt. Och är inte riktigt van att bara hålla till på en resort, men där var det ju fint. Älskar att göra utflykter och att se mig omkring, men det gav ingen mersmak, tyvärr.

Hello, here is now the last posting about Mauritius. Check in the others here! We made one excursion. We thought it was a good idea to do something else and not just stay in our hotel, hehe

We stayed at the Northwest part of the island, and both the airport and the start of the excursion, was on the Southeast part of the Island. So twice we had to cross the island, and we got to see some of it. And it wasn’t that beautiful, which surprised us. First time when we arrived we thought we were just tired and a bit upset, since it took us three hours to get through the passport control, but we got the same impression the second time as well. Dirty, many house half ready and just messy. And we are not used to just stay in a resort, but happy it was nice there. Love to explore, but we didn’t see the point, unfortunately.

Utflykten gick till Ile aux Cerfs, som skulle vara fantastiskt men hmmm det tyckte inte vi. Nåväl, själva utfärden gjordes på en motorbåt och vi var 10 personer, inklusive 2 besättningsmän.

Först gjorde vi ett stopp vid ett korallrev där vi snorklade lite. Det var mysigt!

The excursion went to Ile aux Cerfs, which supposedly was fantastic, but hmmm it wasn’t. More later on regards that. Anyway, we enjoyed being on a speedboat with only 10 people, including the crew.

And first stop was at a coral reef and here we did some snorkling. Nice!!

Sedan gjorde vi nästa stopp vid Ile aux Fouquets. Här har det ett intressant djur- och växtliv och en fyr. Just här har korallrevet som omger ön ett “hål“, den enda plats som fartyg kunde ta sig in till ön förr i tiden, så därför en fyr just här.

The next stop was at Ile aux Fouquets. Here they have an interesting animal and plant environment, and a lighthouse. And here is the only “hole” in the large coral reef that surronds the island, so this was the only place where boats and big ships could enter the island in the old days, hence the lighthouse.

Sedan kom vi till undersköna Ile Aux Cerfs. Visst ser det idylliskt ut? Men skenet bedrar. Det var nästa liten förskräckligt. Så mycket folk och det var rörigt och inte alls idylliskt.

Then it was time to arrive to beautiful Ile aux Cerfs. Looks rather nice, right? But, oh no. It was rather terrible. So much people, and messy and no, nothing to go back here for.

Vi fick gå en bra bit bort för att hitta denna lilla snutten.

På vägen tillbaka stannade vi till igen för att ta ett sista dopp.

Var vi nöjda med utflykten? Tja, det var positivt att vi gjorde utflykten med en motorbåt med lite folk på, snare än på en av de stora katamaranerna som var överfulla och överallt. Sedan var det inte alls så vackert och fantastisk som vi hade trott, men vi tyckte att det var kul att komma iväg men änna lite roligare att komma hem till vårt hotell igen.

Och som jag skrev häromdagen, vi skulle absolut kunna tänka oss att åka tillbaka. Men då välja hotell med omsorg. Och vad vi hörde från ett par andra gäster, man måste vara lite uppmärksam på vart man bor på ön, beroende på årstid. Vind och väder påverkar öst- resp västkust endel, både till det positiva och negativa. Så bra att vi fick hjälp och förslag på vart vi skulle bo denna första gången. För just vårt hotell var en fullträff!

On the way back home we stop for another swim, nice.

Was it worth it? Yes, despite my/our a bit negative impression, on the whole it was ok. We were lucky to be on a speed boat with few people. There were a lot of catamarans overcrowded with people. However, it was not as fantastic as we thought it would be, but we were still happy that we did the trip. But we were even more happy to come “home” again to the hotel.

And as I wrote in my previous posting, we are thinking about going back. But then choose hotel very carefully. And we heard that you should be aware on where you stay on the island depending on the season. The wind and the weather have a rather large impact depending on the location. So happy we got help from a travel agency for our stay. Because we were very happy with our choice.

Mauritius

Hej, åhhh vad jag längtar tillbaka till när vi var på Mauritius. Vi var där i början på november och det var egentligen Bojan, min man, som ville åka till något varmt ställe. Vi funderade på vart vi ville åka och var mest sugna på Sydafrika, och Keith vår kompis ordnade så vi kom till vår favoritplats på jorden; Idwala Game Lodge. Kolla här och här. Och från Sydafrika så är det inte så långt till just Mauritius. Just Mauritius kändes för mig först väldigt 90-tal då många av mina kompisar åkte hit då. Men sedan har det varit rätt tyst om Mauritius som resmål. Men vi svenskar är ju rätt så mycket flockdjur och följer strömmen, så inte så konstigt kanske. Vi fick hjälp av Keiths kompis på en resebyrå och jag tror att vi valde det perfekta stället!

Hello, really really longing back to our week in Mauritius. We went there mid November and it was Bojan, my husband, that wanted us to go to a warm place with nice beaches. We started to look at different places to go but we both realized that we really wanted to go to South Africa, which we did, thanks to Keith our friend, who organized so we could to back to our Nr 1 favorit place in the world; Idwala Game Lodge. Check it out here and here. And from South Africa it is rather close to go to Mauritius. And Mauritius feels a bit like the 90s, since most of my friends went there then but not later. But on the other hand we Swedes do follow trends so if it is not trendy, well then we don’t go, hehe We got great help from our friend Keith’s travel agent and we did choose the right place!!

Vi bodde på Beachcomber Victoria, närmare bestämt Victoria for 2. Just Beachcomber Victoria är ett fyrstjärnig resort på nordvästra sidan av ön. Och känns just, 90-tal. Hade vi checkat in där tror jag nog att vi hade varit besvikna MEN vi valde Victoria for 2 och med swim-up rooms. Och här är det bara vuxna som får bo, och rummen är just för 2 personer. Denna delen var knappt ett år gammalt. Helt perfekt!

We stayed at Beachcomber Victoria, more specifically Victoria for 2. Beachcomber Victoria is a four star resort on the north west part of the island. And feels, japp, very 90s. If we would have stayed at the main resort, I don’t think we wouldn’t have been too happy so we are VERY happy that we booked Victoria for 2 and with swim-up rooms. And this section is for adults-only and each room is for 2 people. This part of the resort was less than a year old. Perfect!!!

Och vi hade valt all-inclusive så allt ingick!! En dag hade vi partaj!! Och vi fick sällskap av ett trevligt par från München.

And we had chosen all-inclusive so everything was included! One day we tried all drinks on the pool menu. And we got company from a nice couple from Munich.

Här ser ni den lilla lounge delen där man kunde sitta om dagarna och äta en lätt lunch. Och på kvällarna tände de en brasa så jättemysigt att sitta här och ta en drink före middagen.

And here you see the small lounge area. Perfect for an easy lunch. And in the evenings they had a bonfire here and super cosy to sit here for a pre-dinner drink.

Vi var här i en vecka och vi gjorde inte så mycket förutom att mysa, bada, träna och äta gott. Kändes faktiskt lite som en bröllopsresa! Vi hade det jättemysigt!! Vi hade ju gjort ganska mycket när vi var i Sydafrika med långa safariturer och djuphavsfiske så det kändes bra att vila ut, hehe

We stayed a week and didn’t do much except for realizing, swimming, training and eating and drinking. Felt a bit like honeymoon. Very nice!!! Really nice!! We had a rather busy time in South Africa with long safari drives and deep sea fishing so it felt good to rest a bit.

Vi hade tillgång till två restauranger som bara vi på Victoria for 2 hade tillgång till; en italiensk och en grillrestaurang samt en bra poolbar med lättare mat såsom sallader och färsk frukt. Och jättegoda drinkar, hehe

We had two restaurants that was for just us at Victoria for 2; an Italian and a grill restaurang as well as really nice pool bar with sallads and fresh fruits among other things. And really good drinks, hehe

De hade ett gym på hotellet och det var också, tja 80-tal. Och kändes som ett typisk gym på ett amerikansk hotell. Men hade det viktigaste. Så här var vi varannan dag.

They had a gym at the hotel and it was, well like the 80s. And it felt really like a gym at an American hotel. But they had the basic equipment so. We went here, every second day.

De hade spinningklasser också och där spikade jag loss tre gånger. Cyklarna var tidigt 90-tal men det var riktigt kul. Och instruktörerna var duktiga och gav en extra krydda då de pratade på franska och engelska genom hela klassen.

And I did some spinning as well. Three times. The bicycles was from early 90s and it was great. The instructors was really good and it gave an additional spark to the class when they talked both English and French trough the whole class.

Vi hade ju stranden precis bredvid och där satt vi på eftermiddagarna. Dock gjorde vi som typiska tyskar, mao jag sprang upp och ut vid sjutiden på morgonen och reserverade stolarna med handdukar och en liten väska.

We hade the beach right beside the hotel and here we went in the afternoons. And we did like typical Germans, i.e. I went up early in the morning and put beach towels and a bag on the chairs…

Och varje kväll klädde vi upp oss och gick och satte oss vid den öppna brasan och tog en drink. Sedan gick vi till kvällens middag.

And every evening we dressed up and went to the bonfire for a pre-dinner drink. Then we had dinner…

Här är grillrestaurangen. Bra meny och bra urval av mat, perfekt tillagat. Vår favorit. Servicen varierade lite, men det var helt ok. Här serverades också frukost för oss på Victoria for 2. Dock var den inte så spännande så de sista dagarna gick jag hit och hämtade kaffe och en stor frukttallrik, som jag tog med tillbaka till vårt rum.

Here is the grill restaurant. Good meny, good food and our favorite. The service was a bit up and down, but ok. Here they also served the breakfast for us at Victoria for 2. However, the breakfast was not that exciting so the last days I went here to pick up breakfast; coffee and a lots of fresh fruit, and brought it with me to the room.

En jättefin och mysig semester. Perfekt väder med ungefär samma temperatur dag och kväll. Soligt men ibland lite molnigt. Lagom hög lufttemperatur. Först tyckte vi att vi inte ville åka tillbaka hit, men när vi skulle åka så sa vi faktiskt kanske.

A really nice and cozy vacation. Perfect weather with approximately the same temperatur day and night. Sunny but partly cloudy. Not to humid. And first we thought that we didn’t want not to go back, but we are not to certain now, maybe maybe.

Next posting will be more about the island itself and about a trip that we did. Have a really nice weekend. Ciao Catharina

Brrr lite kallt... | Brrr a little bit cold...

Hej, efter 27 timmars resa kom vi tills slut hem. Allt gick jättebra, inga överraskningar. Skönt! Men både maken och jag har idag känt oss lite vimmelkantiga. Och vi är fortfarande på Mauritiustid, mao tre timmar före. Så vi vaknade tidig imorse, till bruset av snökanonerna och förmodligen somnar vi tidigt också, också till bruset av snökanonerna.

Vi hade en riktigt mysig sista dag och efter bad i salt vatten och ett träningspass kändes det bra med en dusch. Hotellet erbjöd detta till alla gäster (tror jag) och sedan på med varmare kläder. Därefter hade vi lite tid över och vi satte oss i den stora loungen och hade denna fantastiska utsikt. Ser ni molnet bakom palmerna? Drack sista gratis drinken.

Hello, after 27 hours travel we finally arrived home. Everything went very well, without any surprises. Nice! But both me and my husband feels a bit wobbly today. And we are still on Mauritius time, i.e. 3 hours before. So we woke up early this morning, hearing the snow canons working and probably we will fall asleep early as well, also hearing the snow canons working.

We had a really nice last day on Saturday. And after a long day at the beach and then an hour at the fitness studio it felt really good with a proper shower. The hotel is offering this service to all the guests (I think) and then time to put on warmer clothes. Then we had some time to kill before our taxi arrived and we decided to spend it in the big lounge area, with this beautiful view. Do you see the cloud? We also drank the last free drink.

Sedan mörknade det lite till. Jag sprang fram och tillbaka och tog kort.

Then it got darker. And I ran back and forward to get the best photos.

Och tog en sväng ner till stranden också för att fånga detta. Ett fint hejdå från Mauritius. Vi kanske kommer tillbaka, kanske.

Och här är det kallt. Fast inte egentligen för det är bara runt 0 grader men den värsta tiden är alltid när kylan först kommer. Kroppen måste vänja sig. Sedan kan det bli hur kallt som helst utan att man tänker på det. Konstigt eller hur? Så bara att klä sig varmt och skönt och hålla ut. Samma sak varje år. Ciao Catharina

And here it is cold. Well, not really only around zero Celsius. But the worst time is always in the beginning when it changes to cold weather. The body has to get use to it. After that it doesn’t matter how cold it gets. You don’t really think about it. Strange, right? But only to dress warm and comfy and get use to it. Same thing every year. Ciao Catharina

Hej, sista dagen här på Victoria Beachcomber; Victoria for 2. Vi får egentligen 8 dagar här då vårt flyg inte går förrän vid midnatt. I vanliga fall så har jag lärt mig att inte ta ett sent flyg hem sista dagen. Om man bor på hotell måste man checka ut på förmiddagen och oftast blir resten av dagen en lång väntan på att åka hem... 

Hello, last day here at Victoria Beachcomber, Victoria for 2. We are actually getting 8 days here because our flight is not leaving until midnight. Normally I don’t like a late flight on the last day. It’s just turns out to be a day of waiting. Normally early check-out, then find something to do, get back to get the bags and the off to the airport...

Men inte idag! Vi var kvar på hotellet till tolv inklusive frukost i sängen. Därefter checkade vi ut. Handlade ett par saker i shopen på hotellet, inklusive några vykort att skicka (turist ja visst). Vi har all-inclusive så vi kan utnyttja allt tills vi åker till flygplatsen vid halv åtta ikväll. 

But not today! We stayed in our room until noon with breakfast in bed. Then we check-out, did some shopping including buying some postcards to be sent home (a bit touristic but nice). We have all inclusive so we can use all facilities until we are leaving. 

Vi har ätit en fantastisk lunch och nu ligger vi och lapar i oss den sista solen. Det blåser en mild vind, det är ca 30 grader o lite molningt. Perfekt! Gjorde som en riktig tysk imorse och sprang upp vid halv åtta och la våra handdukar på solstolarna. Sedan dök vi upp vid halv två, hehe

We have had a fab lunch and now we are enjoying the sun. Right now a bit windy and cloudy but still enjoyable. This morning I did like a true German and went out at half past seven and put our towels on the sunbeds. Then we turned up at half past one, hehe.  

Så just nu ser vår utsikt ut så här!

Vi ligger nog här i två timmar till. Sedan tänkte vi ta en runda på gymmet. Vi har bokat dusch så vi får ett rum där vi duschar och byter om till varmare kläder. Sedan bär de av med taxi till flygplatsen, som ligger på andra sidan ön. Om allt går som planerat är vi hemma imorgon kväll vid sju. Så 24 timmars resa...

We are staying here another two hours. Then off to the gym for a last workout, shower and change to warmer clothes. Taxi to airport and if everything goes according to plan we are home tomorrow at 7pm. So 24 hours travel...

...räknar med att Vanderpump är på Emirates entertainmentsystem på hemvägen oxå. Då blir allt lättare... hehe

Postcards from Mauritius.

Hej, nu är vi på Mauritius och vi har en sådan här fantastiskt utsikt från vårt rum!!! Idag har vi inte gjort många knop då vi har behövt att bara på en plats. Vi har sedan vi började denna resa inte haft en dag utan att vi har varit på väg någonstans. Till/från safari, på safari, djuphavsfiske, flyga, bil mm mm så vi båda behövde en dag i solen och att göra ingenting. Men vi har bokat restauranger, spinnigklasser, ansiktsbehandlingar mm så lite aktivitet blir det senare i veckan. Dessutom ligger Mauritius 2 timmar före Sydafrika, så 3 timmar före hemma, så lite tidsvilsen blir man allt.

Hello, we are now in Mauritius and this is our view from our room!! Fab!!! Today we have not done much but that has been exactly what we needed. We have since we started this trip been on the go every single day so one day doing nothing was perfect. But we have booked restaurants, spinning classes and spa treatment. We also have to adjust to the time difference; in 3 hours ahead of home.

Vi träffade helt rätt när vi bokade detta ställe; Victoria for 2, en del av Victoria Beachcomber. Helt perfekt för oss med “swim-up rooms”. Denna delen, som öppnades i våras, är litet och intimt och är adult only. Vi har egna restauranger men kan gå till de andra.

We made the perfect choice of hotel for this stay; Victoria for 2, part of Victoria Beachcomber. And with “swim-up rooms”. This is a rather large complex but Victoria for 2 is a small one that opened up in the spring this year and is also adult only. We have our own restaurants but can visit the other once as well. Perfect!

Varken maken eller jag tror att vi kommer att göra någon rundresa/utflykt. Vi kommer att sola, bada, träna, läsa och bara njuta av att vara här.

We will probably not do any excursions, which is rather unusual for us, but a week here enjoying this place feels like a really good choice. We will swim, sunbathing, do some fitness, read and just enjoy our time here.
