Hej, nu är det måndag igen (och inte många kvar detta året) och jag börjar att acklimatisera mig till alplivet. Annan rytm, lite annat sätt att leva och mycket frisk luft gör att allt går lite långsammare för tillfället. Vårt hus ligger på nästan 1.000 m.ö.h så det påverkar också. Men jätteglad över att vara här!!!

Nämnde ju i ett av mina inlägg från USA-resan för drygt två veckor sedan att jag älskar att köpa hem saker som jag sedan använder i vardagen. I detta inlägg tänkte jag visa vad jag köpte när vi var på besök i Cantebury Shaker Village (läs om mitt inlägg här).

Hello again, Monday again (not many left this year) and I'm starting to get use to the daily life here in the Alps. Another rythm, a little bit different way to live and a lot a lot of fresh air makes me move a bit slow at the moment. Also the fact that our house in approx 1.000 meter above sea level also affects me. But so happy to be here!!!

Mentioned in one of the postings from my US travel a couple of weeks ago, is that I love to buy home things that I can enjoy back home and think about my different travel. In this posting I'm showing you what I bought in Canterbury Shaker Village (read about my posting here).

Kunde ju inte köpa med någon av deras stolar, haha så det blev dessa fina askar, som de är berömda för. Och jag är också en sådan som stoppar ner kniven i brödrosten, så min döttrar tyckte att jag skulle köpa en brödtång, så så blev det.

Couldn't buy any of the chairs, haha so bought these nine boxes, which they are famous for. And I'm also now and then putting the knife in the toaster, so my daughters thought it was a good idea to buy a toaster tong in wood.

Borsta bort smulor och skrubba kastruller kan man göra miljövänligt med dessa borstar!

A environmental friendly way to clean with the whisk and the scrubber!

Portland, Maine.

Godkväll, vi är nu på hemväg och sitter på Boston Logan Airport för att flyga via New York och hem. Men jag har fortfarande lite mer inlägg från resan så här kommer nu Portland, Maine.

Här bodde vi i två nätter. Det är skönt att landa lite emellan och inte köra varje dag. Här var vädret jättefint, som ni ser av bilderna, men vintern är nu på ingång även här. Portland är den största staden i Maine och har en stor hamn, vilket präglar hela staden.

Good evening! We are now on our way back to Stockholm. We are here at Boston Logan Airport. Wanted to have some extra time due to winter weather in the whole area plus extra traffic due to Black Friday! I still have some more postings to do from our trip, and the turn has come to Portland, Maine.

We stayed here two nights. It is nice to have time when you travel around to just land with your suitcases and get to know the place a bit more without stress. Portland is the largest city in Maine, and has a large harbor, that give the town its charm.

Portland är en charmig liten stad och har definitivt lite hipster känsla. Om som jag skrivit om tidigare är vi här i lågsäsong så man ser mer av staden än alla turister, som jag förutsätter invaderar staden i högsäsong.

Portland is a really charming small town with a hipster feeling. And I have previously written about that we are here in off season, but it really charming, and empty in a good way.

En av kvällarna gick vi till Eventide Oyster Co och åt ostron från Maine och drack goda drinkar!!

On of the evening we went to Eventide Oyster Co and had local Maine oysters and drank really good drinks!!

Och den andra kvällen gick vi till Scales. En skaldjursresturang med jättesnygg inredning i själva hamnen. Maten var jättegod!!

The other night we went to Scales. A seafood restaurant with a really trendy Scandinavian setting in the harbor. The food was delicious!

Var ute och promenerade på morgonarna och runt staden. Har alltid varit förtjust i att promenera runt (tidigare när jag kunde springa så var jag alltid ute och sprang) och man upptäcker fina saker. Ibland blir det omvägar, senvägar och återvändsgränder, men det är ju en del av att upptäcka en ny stad. Zomma gärna in bilden innan och kolla på de gulliga texterna.

I love walking around (before when I could run, I was running where ever I went). I always find new nice things. It is seldom a straight route but it is like exploring. Zoom in have a look at the sign on these small houses that I found.

The Standard Baking Co, Portland ME 2016

Vi köpte frukost på The Standard Baking Co. Trendigt och fantastiskt gott!! Samt när vi åkte vidare till Bar Harbour köpte vi med oss världens godaste bagels på Ohno Café.

We had breakfast at The Standard Baking Co. A trendy bakery with really delisous bread, muffins and cakes. And when we went to Bar Harbour we bought the most fabolous bagels at Union Bagel Company.

Imorgon vaknar vi upp i Stockholm. Vi landar vid halv åtta och skall då hem för en snabbdusch och sedan gå på inredningskurs. På söndag kväll bär det av till västkusten för att hälsa på mina syskon så packning, tvätt och fix står på schemat efter kursen. Bra att ha fullt upp så man får kämpa med jetlagen liten, det går fortare över då. Vi hörs förmodligen imorgon med bilder från Bar Harbour! Ha en skön helg!! Catharina

Tomorrow we will wake up in Stockholm. We will land half past seven and then it is time for a quick shower and of to two days of interior design course. Nice!! Then I'm of to the west coast so see my sibbling. Now I have to run to get on the flight to NY... Ciao Catharina

Ogunquit, Maine. Off season.

Hej igen!! Nu kommer nästa inlägg, denna gången från Maine. Vi åkte från Jackson, New Hampshire till Portland, Maine. När vi var i Portland tog vi en lite tur till Ogunquit, som låg lite längre ner längst kusten. Här var det jättevackert! Vintern är på ingång med snö och temperaturer närmare 0 grader.

Hello again! Now it is time for Maine. We left Jackson, New Hampshire till Portland, Maine. When we stayed in Portland we took a small day trip to Ogunquit, a bit further down the coast. A beautiful place! Winter is approaching with low temperatures and snow.

Vi är här i lågsäsong så mycket är stängt. Vi letade efter en liten restaurang här i Perkins Cove men den var tyvärr stängd.

We are here in off season so many things are closed. We went down to Perkins Cove to look for a small restaurant, but unfortunately it was closed.

Idag är det Thanksgiving här i USA och vi lämnar nu Maine för att åka tillbaka till Burlington, Vermont. Vi räknar med att det tar mellan 7-8 timmar att åka dit, om allt går bra. Vi har blivit bjudna på Thankgivingmiddag a la studentliv hos en av Mimmis kompisar så ser fram emot kvällen med kalkon och amerikansk fotboll.

Kommer också att skriva lite om hur vi planerat denna trippen, hur det är att köra här i USA, vad vi lyssnar på i bilen mm mm. Tack för tipset Tess Mabon. På återhörande!! Catharina

Today it is Thanksgiving here in US and we are leaving Maine early to go back to Burlington, Vermont. The drive should take between 7-8 hours, if everything goes ok. We have been invited to Thanksgiving dinner at Mimmi's place so looking forward to the turkey and football.

I will also make a posting with information about the road trip; how it was planned, how it to drive here in US, what we listen to while driving etc etc. Thanks for the idea Tess Mabon. I will soon be back with more!! Ciao Catharina

Canterbury, NH. Shaker Village.

Godmorgon! Vi tog en liten omväg på vår tur till Maine då jag väldigt gärna ville åka till en Shakerby och Cantebury Shaker Village låg närmast. Detta är en av 15 Shakerbyar i USA, varav många finns i denna delen av USA.

Good Morning! We took a detour on our way to Maine since I really wanted to visit a Shaker Village and the Cantebury Shaker Village were closest. This is one of 15 villages here in US, most of them are located here in the northeast part of US.

Denna by grundades 1792 och här bodde man fram till 1992; mao 200 år och som mest bodde här 300 personer. Idag är byn ett musuem och vi gick på den guidade turen. Mycket intressant med dess historia och att höra hur innovativa de var, samt vilket hantverk de gjorde. Här ser ni utvalda bilder från vår rundtur; dels utifrån och dels innifrån från två av husen som vi fick gå in i.

This villages was founded in 1792 and remained until 1992; i.e. 200 years and at most 300 people lived here. Today the villages is a museum and we went on the guided tour. Very interesting to hear about the history of the Shakers and also to hear how innovative they were as well as the remarkable quality in everything they produced. Here you will see some photos from our tour; both the outside as well as some photos from inside of two of the houses we were allowed to visit here in the village.

Jag har alltid tilltalats av den sk Shakerstilen; stilrena & funktionella kvalititesmöbler och förmål i trä. Det var också kul & intressant att se att knopplisten som har blivit populär i höst bl.a. hos Kvänum, hur man skapade mer ljus i olika utrymmen genom att ha ett fönster-i-rummet och hur man på den tiden hade maximalt med fönster, och stora fönster, för att i dessa mörka trakter få in mer ljus för att man skulle må bättre, vilket var ytterst sällsynt.

I have always been fascinated by the so called Shaker style; well-made furniture of minimalist design in different kind of wood. It was also fun & interesting to see that even today the Shaker style is very popular such as the wall knobs that can be seen at the Swedish kitchen manufacturer Kvänum, or how they back then created a "window-in-the-room" to get more light indoor or how they had a lots of big windows in their houses in order to get more light indoors in order to feel better during the dark seasons, contrary to what was done then.

Jag köpte lite saker från deras shop, såsom servettringar och ett par av deras klassiska svepaskar, samt några julklappar. Ni får se bilder på detta när jag är hemma igen. Jag älskar att köpa med mig saker från mina resor. Då har jag alltid minnen från platser som jag besökt.

I bought some nice things from their shop; some napkin rings, a couple of their Shaker Oval Boxes, and some Christmas presents. I will share some photos of what I bought when I'm back home. I really love to buy things when travelling. It is such a nice memory to have back home.

Tvättstugan där man tvättade på bottenvåningen och torkade tvätt samt strök en trappa upp.

The washing house were they did all the washing down stairs and then dried and ironed everything upstairs.

Korgar märkta med rumsnummer så att man visste vart de skulle efter att ha tvättats, strukits och ev lagats. Även kläderna var märkta, även fast de inte var personlig egendom.

The baskets was marked with the room numbers so they knew where to put the cleaned goods after washing. Also the clothes were marked, even though you didn't own anything, but it was for fitting purposes.

Här målades det senast i slutet på 1800-talet, och här ser ni både knopplisterna och stolarna. Detta var väl värt omvägen och även Mimmi & Gaby tyckte om turen.

This room was repainted the last time in late 19th century, and here you can also see the famous wall pegs and the Shaker chair. It was well worth the detour and Mimmi & Gaby liked it very much as well.

Burlington, VT again.

Godmorgon, har tagit en powerwalk nere vid Lake Champlain nu på morgonen. Här är vädret helt fantastiskt, långt från snö och regn i Stockholm & Flachau, men kallt väder skall vara på gång i nästa vecka, men idag är det strålande sol och det skall bli uppåt 17 grader. Vi skall strax checka ut från vårt hotell, äta lite frukost innan vi påbörjar vår road trip; första anhallt är Jackson, New Hampshire som ligger i ett område som heter White Mountain. Vi har ca 25 mil att köra, lite lagom.

Good morning, back from a morning power walk down by Lake Champlain. The weather here is fantastic, sunny and soon 17 degrees. Far away from all the snow and rain in Stockholm & Flachau, however the cold weather is coming just in time for Thanksgiving! We are soon to check-out from our hotel, have some breakfast and then we will hit the road. First stop on our road trip is Jackson, New Hampshire located in an area called White Mountain, approx 250 km to drive, not to bad.

New England är känt för sina helt fantastiska färger under hösten. Dock är vi lite sent ute och de flesta träd har redan tappat sina löv men man kan se lite av de enormt färgstarka löven kvar på vissa träd.

New England is famous for it absolutely stunning autumn; the Foliage. However, we are a bit too late but some trees still have the leaves so you can get the idea on the colour explosion in the nature.

Igår var vi runt i Burlington. Vi åt frukost på Monarch & The Milkweed. Tror att det är första gången vi var först på ett frukostställe!! Jättegod frukost! Men nu när dollarn står så högt i kurs blir allt relativt dyrt här ( = Stokholmspriser) och då är vi inte i någon storstad eller turistställe.

Yesterday we spent the day here in Burlington, just enjoying the town. We had breakfast at Monarch & The Milkweed. I think this is the first time ever, that we were the first ones!! Breakfast where really really nice. However, with the dollar so expensive everything here is really expensive ( = prices in Stockholm) and we are not even in a very touristic place / big city!!

Och gick tillbaka till några favoritaffärer; Common Deer & Vermont Farm Table. Affärer med lokalt producerade produkter. Allt är sååå fint! Köpte några saker...

Lake Champlain Chocolates, Burlington 2016

Sedan handlade vi med oss lite chocklad på Lake Champlain Chocolates.

We also bought some nice chocolate at Lake Champlain Chocolates.

Vi, eller snarare jag, avslutade gårdagen med middag på vår favoritrestaurang här; A Single Pebble. Gaby följde med Mimmi till sitt hur för att umgås med hennes kompisar. Vi kommer tillbaka hit till Burlington nästa torsdag och skall fira Thankgsgiving med Mimmis kompisar! Lite kul!!!

We, or rather me, finished yesterday at our favorite restaurant here; A Single Pebble. Gaby spend the rest of the evening with Mimmi and her friends!! We will be back next Thursday and will then celebrate Thanksgiving with Mimmi's friends (those that are still here). Nice!!
